Day three in New Mexico. Took the long way to Roswell to visit the Blue Hole in Santa Rosa.
There were a lot of people getting ready to dive, and a few people swimming, but not too much else. Apparently there is a maze of un-mapped caves underneath that have been fatal to divers and are recommended again to be sealed forever. Scary.
New Mexico is a lot like the Blue Hole - unexpected and in the middle of what looks like nothing. For example, the road to Roswell - looks a lot like nothing. I've driven solo through weird back country in Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona etc..., but New Mexico has an interesting nothingness. It's still beautiful but.. haunting in a way. (especially when I have no cell service ahh.. or Edge network because that is still a thing in New Mexico)
The drive was super windy (especially at the news station) but I made it to Roswell by early afternoon.
I heard someone in the diner I stopped at for lunch explain Roswell like "the mirage you see when you're hallucinating in the desert - like someone just took a whole town and put it in the middle of nowhere for no reason" Fair assessment.
Thankfully after my night of coyotes, gate jumping, and outhouses I was staying in the guesthouse at a spa. It was so nice I almost didn't want to leave... except to go to the UFO Museum (obv)
My guesthouse was right downtown and only a couple blocks walk from the UFO Museum and touristy Alien shops. It was so super duper cool. I love aliens, art, kitsch, and conspiracy theories so of course I stayed in the museum reading every piece of UFO evidence for hours.
The downtown is full of touristy alien shops. Exactly what I wanted it to be.
So much UFO and Alien stuff.
My people. Interesting tidbit: a few days before I visited someone stole a big UFO that had come off the side of the building this winter during a snowstorm.
After the alien stuff I went back to the spa to relax and watch the moon. I had access to the hot tubs and backyard area of the spa all night so I turned on the lights, brought some wine (and pepper spray haha) and enjoyed my evening.
So perfect. Even in town the sky and the moon are so beautiful.
I finished the night with my version of a charcuterie plate and some local wine.
Until next time.
Take time to look
